In a significant step toward strengthening food security and improving rural livelihoods, Bena Charity for Human Development (BCFHD) officially launched the Rural Agricultural Development Project on Thursday in the districts of Jabal Habashi and Al-Ma’afer, with generous funding from Pure Hands.
The project targets five priority villages: Al-Mahaini and Al-Maeen in Wadi Hanna – Bani Issa sub-district, Mokhaza in Milat – Jabal Habashi, and Al-Kadam and Al-Saheliya in Al-Kulaiba sub-district – Al-Ma’afer. A total of 40 farmers (36 men and 4 women) are benefiting from a comprehensive package of agricultural and community development interventions, including:
- Construction of 5 rainwater harvesting tanks, each with a capacity of 80 cubic meters
- Distribution of 40 drip irrigation systems, each covering 1,600 square meters
- Provision of 40 diesel-powered hand tillers (7 HP)
- Distribution of 40 plastic water tanks (3,000-liter capacity)
- Direct cash support of $100 per farmer for purchasing seeds, seedlings, and fertilizers
- Field training sessions for farmers on modern farming techniques, organic compost production, and natural pest control
- Training for 5 community committee members on integrated management, conflict resolution, crop calendars, e-marketing, and post-harvest storage
As part of the project’s community engagement component, a Cash-for-Work activity was also implemented. A total of 50 skilled and unskilled laborers participated in the construction of the rainwater harvesting tanks over three work cycles, earning $100 per cycle.
