Aden Hosts First Coordination Meeting for the Launch of the Food Security and Resilience Project in Al-Dhale’e.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries Wealth, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Bena Charity for Human Development (BCFHD), held the first coordination meeting in Aden to officially launch the “Emergency Response, Food Security and Resilience Project in Al-Dhale’e Governorate”, funded by the World Bank.

The project targets four districts in Al-Dhale’e Governorate—Al-Dhale’e, Al-Azariq, Juhaf, and Al-Husain—and aims to improve food security and nutrition for 1,800 vulnerable households with children under five suffering from malnutrition.

Support will be provided through home gardening initiatives, including drip irrigation systems, water tanks, hand farming tools, and five types of seeds (tomatoes, chili peppers, coriander, molokhia, and onions). In addition, households will receive cooking and food processing tools, and benefit from training sessions on good agricultural practices, irrigation system installation and maintenance, and nutrition awareness.

During the meeting, the Project Manager presented a brief overview of the project, its objectives, components, and implementation mechanisms, emphasizing the importance of strong coordination with government entities to ensure effective outcomes.

The meeting was attended by:

Eng. Abdulmalik Naji, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries Wealth

Eng. Anwar Abdulkarim, Director of Agricultural Projects at the Ministry of Agriculture

Hussein Ahmed, representative of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation

Muneef Ahmed, Director General of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor

This project is a key intervention to enhance the resilience of rural communities in the face of ongoing food security challenges amid the country’s humanitarian and economic crises.
