Bena Charity for Human Development, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), has carried out a series of field activities as part of the Emergency Agriculture and Nutrition Response Project to support the most vulnerable households in Al-Misrakh and Al-Mokha districts of Taiz Governorate. The project aims to improve food security and livelihoods for thousands of beneficiaries from the most marginalized communities.
As part of the project, a delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, headed by Technical Advisor Eng. Ahmed Al-Wahsh, along with a high-level delegation from FAO, visited the veterinary quarantine facility in Al-Misrakh District, implemented by Bena Charity. The facility plays a key role in strengthening animal health measures and protecting livestock assets to improve the income sources of vulnerable families.
The FAO delegation included Dr. Ali Jaloul, Head of the FAO Office in Aden; Dr. Mohammed Fare, Acting Deputy FAO Representative; Dr. Abdulmoamen Shojaaddin, FAO Representative in Taiz; and Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Bakeer, FAO Veterinary Advisor. The delegation was received by Eng. Abdullah Al-Dhaees, Director of the Agriculture Office in Taiz Governorate.
In Al-Mokha District, Bena Charity distributed 640 female sheep to 140 beneficiaries in Qutna village of Al-Mashalah sub-district, aiming to empower vulnerable families through sustainable income-generating livestock assets. This was part of the project’s livestock support package, which also includes animal feed and mineral blocks.
The agricultural support components of the project featured the distribution of vegetable seeds (such as tomatoes, onions, chili peppers, okra, etc.) and farming tools, in addition to delivering nutrition awareness sessions and trainings on good agricultural and livestock practices.
As part of its cash assistance interventions, Bena Charity also distributed unconditional cash transfers to 500 beneficiaries in Al-Jum’ah sub-district of Al-Mokha, and to an additional 1,400 households in Al-Misrakh District, helping them meet their essential needs amid challenging economic conditions.
Through these integrated interventions, Bena Charity reaffirms its commitment to continue its humanitarian and development efforts in coordination with supporting partners—particularly FAO—to ensure a timely, effective, and sustainable response that addresses local needs and contributes to improved food security and resilient livelihoods.
