BCFHD, in Partnership with Save the Children, Launches MUAC Screening Campaign for Children and Pregnant and Lactating Women in Three Districts of Taiz Governorate.

Bena Charity for Human Development (BCFHD), in partnership with Save the Children, and in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health and Population, and under the direct supervision of the Public Health and Population Office at the governorate level and the Health Offices in the targeted districts, launched on Saturday, January 24, a Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) screening campaign targeting children aged 6–59 months, as well as pregnant and lactating women, in Al-Mawaset, Al-Ma’afer, and Maqbanah districts of Taiz Governorate.

The campaign was launched in the presence of central supervisors, governorate and district-level supervisors, and the project team from BCFHD, following the implementation of a refresher training for volunteers and supervisors in the three targeted districts. This preparatory step preceded the field implementation of the campaign, which is scheduled to commence on Sunday and continue for a period of five days.

MUAC screening activities will be conducted across the first, second, and third population catchment areas of ten targeted health facilities in Al-Mawaset, Al-Ma’afer, and Maqbanah districts, ensuring broad community coverage and effective outreach to the targeted groups.

A total of 107 field personnel are participating in the campaign, including Community Health and Nutrition Volunteers, team supervisors, district supervisors, and staff from the Governorate Public Health and Population Office. This integrated team approach enhances the quality of implementation and ensures effective and comprehensive community-level coverage.

The campaign aims to enable early detection of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) among children and pregnant and lactating women, and to facilitate timely referral of identified cases to health facilities for appropriate therapeutic services. This contributes to reducing malnutrition-related risks and improving health and nutrition indicators among the most vulnerable groups.

This campaign is implemented as part of “Integrated Response Project addressing nutrition and protection needs in crisis-affected areas”, implemented in partnership with Save the Children and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada, within the framework of joint efforts to strengthen health and nutrition services and protect the most vulnerable populations.
