Bena Charity for Human Development (BCFHD) conducted a specialized training for Protection Committees in the districts of Al-Qahera, Sala, Al-Mudhaffar, Al-Ma’afer, and Mawza’a in Taiz Governorate, with the participation of 30 participants, as part of the project:
“Small Hands, Big Dreams: Empowering Out of School Children (OOSC) and Children at Risk of Dropping Out (CRDO) through formal and non-formal education, child protection and psychosocial support (PSS) services in Five districts of Taiz Governorate, Yemen.”
implemented in partnership with War Child and funded by European Union Humanitarian Aid.
The training aimed to strengthen the capacities of Community Protection Committees and enable them to effectively carry out their role in child protection, particularly for the most vulnerable groups, while supporting efforts to reduce school dropout and improve access to education.
The training covered a number of key topics, including:
- Introduction to child protection and core protection concepts
- Overview of case management and its relevance to vulnerable children’s issues
- Principles of working with children
- Identification and referral mechanisms for vulnerable children within the education sector
- The importance of education and its benefits for children, families, and communities
- Roles and responsibilities of Community Protection Committees
The training placed particular emphasis on the role of the committees in raising community awareness about the importance of education and the risks associated with children being deprived of schooling or dropping out. It also strengthened their capacities in identifying and referring cases, including out-of-school children, school dropouts, and those at risk of dropping out, to ensure they receive appropriate support services.
Participants highlighted the importance of such initiatives in empowering local communities to better protect children, enhancing the integration between education and protection sectors, and contributing to the creation of a safe and supportive environment for children, particularly in light of the ongoing humanitarian challenges in the governorate.
This training is part of a series of activities implemented across the targeted districts, reflecting Bena Charity’s and its partners’ commitment to promoting education and protection as key pillars for supporting children and building their future.
